Everest Region

The Everest Region, known as Khumbu in the local language, is a world-renowned trekking and mountaineering destination. Located in northeastern Nepal, it is home to Mount Everest (8,848 meters), the highest peak on Earth. The region offers stunning alpine landscapes, glacial rivers, and high-altitude settlements. Trekkers can experience Sherpa culture, visit Buddhist monasteries, and view some of the tallest peaks in the world, including Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

Trekkers require a Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card to trek in the Everest Region.

Nightlife is minimal in the Everest Region, usually limited to evenings in teahouses or lodges where trekkers gather. These settings offer relaxed environments, with occasional cultural shows or storytelling sessions around the fire. No clubs or bars are present.

Culture and history info

The Everest Region is the heartland of the Sherpa people, famous for their mountaineering skills and hospitality. Sherpa culture is deeply influenced by Tibetan Buddhism, which is evident in the region’s monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags. The region has a rich mountaineering history, with Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's historic 1953 ascent of Everest as a pivotal moment.
