Mustang Region

The Mustang Region, located in the north-central part of Nepal, is renowned for its unique, arid landscapes and rich Tibetan culture. Often referred to as the "Last Forbidden Kingdom," Mustang was once a restricted area until it opened to tourism in the early 1990s. The region is divided into Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang, with Upper Mustang being known for its dramatic desert-like terrain, ancient caves, and traditional Tibetan monasteries. The capital of the region, Lo Manthang, is a historic walled city with a vibrant cultural heritage.

Permits / VisaTrekkers need the Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit, and also the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) for trekking in the region. A registered guide is mandatory due to its restricted status.
